Peace Fresno's Peace and Justice Festival

Peace Fresno’s big annual event is "The Rally in the Valley". This year it is also designated as the "Peace and Justice Festival" and is being dedicated to long time Central Valley activist George "Elfie" Ballis who is battling cancer. To accommodate a bigger and better festival and to make for a fun event come rain or shine, we are moving the Festival to the Big Fresno Fairgrounds; the 20,000 square foot solar powered Junior Exhibit Building.

Our featured speakers will be Kathy Kelly, a three time Nobel Peace Prize nominee and the coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence, who has dedicated her life to peace action, Rick Reyes, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan who opposes our involvement in those countries. Thomas Ian Nicholas, a young actor, musician and songwriter who portrays Abbie Hoffman in the upcoming film "The Chicago 8", has been booked to deliver a speech in the persona of Abbie Hoffman and to perform a set of his own music.

Completing the entertainment bill for the Festival will be the multi-talented Fresno flamenco moderno group Ibice, local eclectic retro-rock favorites Blake Jones and the Trike Shop and the Sanger Academy Charter School Guitar Ensemble, a group of talented 7th and 8th graders.

The Peace and Justice Festival will commemorate the seventh anniversary of the U.S. attack on Iraq.  We come together to strengthen the movement against militarism, to bear witness, and to learn from each other.  Last year over fifty local organizations showcased their work.

For the first time Peace Fresno is inviting vendors to sell hand-crafted and local goods.  Groups and vendors wishing to participate are encouraged to register early using the downloadable registration form.  (See the link to the form in the block above.) For more information call Dan Yaseen at 251-3361.
