About Peace Fresno
What We Do
Peace Fresno is an antiwar education, advocacy, and activist organization. Our goal is the abolition of war. We work to build the peace movement locally and nationally. Our motto is “Action for social justice and alternatives to war.” Peace Fresno collaborates with groups in our community and elsewhere working for peace and social, economic, and environmental justice. We seek to eliminate militarism from our police departments, schools, and culture. We are affiliated with World Beyond War and the Fresno Center for Nonviolence.
Our History
Soon after 9/11 (September 11, 2001), President George W. Bush declared “War on Terror”. On October 7, 2001 US attacked Afghanistan. Many Fresno residents had started gathering at Shaw and Blackstone Avenues to support the local Muslim community and oppose US attack on Afghanistan. Some of us started meeting at the Fresno Center for Nonviolence, Peace Fresno emerged as a result of those meetings.
Since 9/11, US has bombed 13 countries, working in conjunction with allies. Beginning with Afghan War, Peace Fresno has opposed and protested all US wars. Peace Fresno has opposed Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians for many years. Since October 7, 2023 Peace Fresno joined local Palestinian community in protesting US/Israeli genocide of Palestinians.
We are currently protesting US/Israeli wars on Iran, Palestine and Lebanon every Saturday.
We collaborate with other local Peace Groups. We have also worked with local immigrant, African American, LGBTQI+ and many other groups to raise our voices to protect their rights.
